When he is good he is specific in a way almost nobody is: he quotes a film's own promise about music and then says it delivers exactly that, which is a claim a reader can go and check. He is also the only critic we have thrown out, for five words about Avatar that compare it to earlier films and say nothing about this one. Both of those are him, and we would rather print both.
